£4m improves roads and footpaths

Work costing £4m is being carried out on roads and footpaths in a town where two new neighbourhoods are being built.

It is part of a £90m investment scheme into services and facilities in Horley, Surrey, where about 2,600 homes are to be constructed.

Councillor David Munro said the £4m improvements are being paid for by developers' contributions.

Planned work includes improving road junctions, cycle routes, pedestrian facilities and traffic calming.

'Housing targets'

Work has already begun to improve pedestrian access in Station Approach.

And a full programme of improvements will be considered by the area's local committee on 2 June.

Mr Munro said: "Like all authorities in the south, Surrey has targets for creating more housing."

He said the improvements would ensure that the infrastructure "needed for the thousands of new residents" will be in place.
