Former Radio Foyle presenter dies

The death has taken place of former BBC Radio Foyle presenter, Don O'Doherty.

Mr O'Doherty presented programmes on the station for 10 years and was well-known in Derry for his charity work and as a compere of musical shows.

He died on Saturday following a short illness, and his funeral will take place on Tuesday.

Dr Edward Daly, retired bishop of Derry, said he was deeply saddened at the passing of one of his closest friends.

Comedian Frank Carson said he would ask Mr Doherty's family if he could keep his bow-tie as a keepsake.

"He was a close friend for 40 years - every time I went to Derry I'd stay at his house, so I was part of the family," he said.

"His bow-tie is something which will always remind me of him and I'd wear it every chance I get."
