Police are searching for a suspected rogue trader following a call from a resident in North Norfolk.
The man was reportedly trying to sell wire cages to prevent birds nesting in chimneypots in Sheringham.
Norfolk Police said they are not sure whether the door-to-door sales are part of a con, but are treating it seriously because of other recent crimes.
The man police want to trace is white, aged 35 to 45, 6ft tall (1.8m), unshaven and well built.
He was seen on Saturday morning driving a white Citroen car with ladders strapped to the roof.
Sgt Steve King, of Norfolk Police, said: "We are just concerned because there are a number of rogue traders who have been working in the area recently, with people selling jewellery or fish at high prices.
"The gentleman in question has been knocking on doors trying to sell these cages to go on chimneys. We're just concerned he could be a rogue trader."
