Police officer injured in assault

A police officer has been injured in an assault in Sunderland.

He was dealing with an incident in the Barnes Park area on Friday night when it happened. No information about his condition has been released yet.

A police spokesman said officers were quick to respond and a number of arrests were made.

Northumbria police have appealed for witnesses and said that anyone who contacts them with information will be dealt with in confidence.
