Craig Brown - Scotland manager

Craig Brown is football's Mr Nice. A former primary school headmaster, he is softly spoken and always polite.

He gets his point across without raising his voice and it seems to be working.

He had a low-profile playing career with Dundee and never represented Scotland. Brown was manager of Clyde before his appointment as national coach, a decision greeted with much scepticism.

Brown is looking forward to taking on Brazil in the first round [35'']
But he has got on with the job and answered his critics with good results to take Scotland to France. In 1996 he also became the first Scottish manager to lead his side out in the European Championship finals.

But he has limited resources and has been unable to persuade striker Duncan Ferguson to reverse his decision to turn his back on international football.

Nevertheless, unlike some of his rivals, his job is not on the line. He has already been given a four-year contract by the Scottish Football Association, which will make him Scotland's longest serving manager.
