Having lived there for 20 years and become a Chilean national, Acosta has a strong affinity with the country. Despite his relative inexperience - only having been in charge of Union Espanola before his appointment - Acosta's biggest strength is his ability to motivate.
He does not mind ringing the changes and used more than 40 different players in qualification. He kept them on their toes too by saying that only six, including strikers Marcelo Salas and Ivan Zamorano, were guaranteed a place in his squad for France.
