Greek Cypriot policy to continue no matter who wins elections -

Denktas Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktas said on Sunday that Greek Cypriot policy would remain the same regardless of who won the presidential elections in the south of Cyprus, Turkish Cypriot radio reported.

"There will not be any change in the intentions and policies of the Greek Cypriots no matter who wins the elections," it quoted a statement given by Denktas to Bayrak Radio and TV as saying.

"He remarked that the partnership republic has been transformed into a Greek Cypriot republic through the use of force" the television said, adding that Denktas said the Turkish Cypriots would insist on the principle of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus because there was "no other solution" .

Denktas said equal sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots and mutual recognition were essential if partnership was to be achieved and called on the next Greek Cypriot president to accept two equal partners.

Negotiations with representatives of the Turkish community in northern Cyprus are due to resume next month.
