Draskovic speech: Excerpts ![]() Draskovic: 'We want, desire and demand Milosevic's resignation' Serbian opposition leader Vuk Draskovic used his first rally since the Kosovo campaign to call for the resignation of the Yugoslav president, Slobodan Milosevic. The following are extracts from his speech.
The authorities must work towards lifting the sanctions against this country, and ensure the international financial, diplomatic, humanitarian and every other support for our people. Secondly, in co-operation with the whole world, they must rectify the shameful things happening in Kosovo now. Our people in Kosovo-Metohija must be protected - they must feel safe and secure on their ancient land and in their own country.
Thirdly, the authorities must create conditions in the shortest possible time for the democratic elections at all levels in Serbia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. After all the misfortunes that have befallen the Serbian people - and particularly now after Kosovo - every human, moral, and state reason demands that the FRY president step down. The Serbian Renewal Movement wants, desires, and demands Milosevic's resignation.
