Poland lists Nazi-era Swiss accounts

Poland has said it will compensate the heirs of Polish Holocaust victims whose Swiss bank accounts have remained dormant since World War II, the Polish news agency PAP reported.

The Polish Finance Ministry published a list of 53 dormant bank accounts whose owners or their heirs are entitled to full compensation, and issued a statement explaining how the money would be returned.

The statement said that all financial resources transferred from the Swiss government to the Polish government in 1960 and 1975 after the liquidation of dormant bank accounts and insurance policies - representing a total of 480,301.65 Swiss francs - would be made available to the rightful owners and their heirs.

The heirs of account or policy holders should submit their claims to a finance ministry department, the statement said.
