Funeral of Michael Hutchence held in Sydney
The funeral has taken place in Australia of the rock star, Michael Hutchence, who was found hanged in his hotel on Saturday. The service at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney was broadcast live on Australian television and began with a recording of the hit song 'By My Side' which Hutchence made with his group, INXS. The Australian singer, Nick Cave, also sang at the ceremony. The coffin was covered in blue irises -- and a single tiger lily to represent Hutchence's baby daughter, who was named after the flower. Hundreds of fans outside the cathedral were able to follow the funeral on a large TV screen. Investigationsinto Mr Hutchence's death are still going on. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
