Australian rock singer Hutchence dies

The Australian rock star, Michael Hutchence, has been found dead in a hotel room in Sydney.

Reports say the singer appeared to have hanged himself.

Police have not confirmed this, but say a leather belt has been taken away for examination.

The police say there were no suspicious circumstances.

Hutchence enjoyed international success as lead singer with the band INXS, selling more than twenty-million albums worldwide.

He and the band had been preparing for a twentieth anniversary tour.

In recent years he's been better known for his stormy private life, following a string of relationships with well-known women, including Paula Yates, the former wife of the Band Aid charity founder, Bob Geldof.
