Gorilla undergoes eye transplant surgery
Veterinary surgeons in China say they have, for the first time, performed a cornea transplant on a gorilla.

The animal, named Nikou, had been losing his sight due to cataracts, making it difficult for him to walk or climb. The surgeons are waiting to see how his right eye recovers before deciding whether to carry out a similar operation on his left eye.

A spokesman for the Zhengzhou Zoo, in the central province of Henan, said 12 zookepers would watch Nikou night and day to make sure he did not pull off his bandages.
