Lazarenko's investigation goes to Antigua
The criminal investigation of the former Ukrainian prime minister, Pavlo Lazarenko, has moved to the Caribbean island of Antigua, where the authorities have temporarily blocked his bank account of eighty-million dollars.
They said they uncovered links between Mr Lazarenko's bank accounts in the Caribbean off-shore tax heaven and those in Switzerland and Ukraine.
The former Ukrainian leader, who fled to the United States, is wanted in Switzerland on money-laundering charges and in Ukraine on charges of large-scale corruption and embezzlement of about seven-hundred-million dollars.
He says the charges against him are politically-motivated.
