Martinez' traditional Spanish base line game would hardly seem suited to the lawns of SW19. But she is a former champion having won the title in 1994 and has twice been to the semi-finals.

Her recent form at Wimbledon is not good though having not made it to the last sixteen in each of the last three years. But she will be full of confidence this time having made the final of the French Open earlier this month.
