Britain's Tim Henman revealed after his 6-3 6-3 6-3 victory over Morocco's Hicham Arazi that the presence of Bjorn Borg was the inspiration behind his win.
The 25-year-old took time out from his pre-match practice session to watch the five-times men's singles winner take part in the Millennium Parade celebrations. "I want to be in it some day and that's a big incentive for me," said Henman. "Borg was a big hero of mine. To see the legends of the game was great. I certainly enjoyed it."
Henman now faces Mark Philippoussis on Monday after the big Australian won an epic encounter against Holland's Scheng Schalken which included a final fifth set scoreline of 20-18. "I walked out on court at 1-0 in the fifth set of that match," added Henman. "When I came off I said to Philippoussis `What took you so long? I played my match in one set of yours'. I think he was just happy to get through it. I hope he's a bit tired on Monday, but he's a strong guy." And the Briton was confident about the task that was awaiting him. "He serves big and it's not the first time I will have played big servers," said Henman. "I know I have to be sharp. But I'll take a lot out of the three matches so far and just start again come Monday. I'm focused on what I have to do. "I'll just go out and enjoy myself and if you're enjoying yourself you are half-way to playing good tennis." |
