No all-American final?
Andre Agassi
Agassi v Rafter will go the distance says Iain Carter
BBC tennis correspondent Iain Carter predicts a Sampras win and an Agassi loss in the men's singles semi-finals

Pete Sampras (US) v Vladimir Voltchkov (Blr), Centre Court

Voltchkov's run to the semi-finals as a qualifier - the first since John McEnroe in 1977 - has been the story of the men's competition.

But I really can't see him having any chance against Sampras unless the defending champion's injury problems flare up again during the match.

There were times during his quarter-final against Jan-Michael Gambill when Sampras didn't seem to be moving very comfortably around the court, but he's had another day to rest.

Voltchkov keeps watching the film Gladiator to keep himself pumped up, but I don't think it's going to do him any good.

At least now, after playing at Wimbledon in borrowed shorts, he shouldn't have trouble attacting a clothes sponsor.

Prediction: Sampras to win in three sets

Andre Agassi (US) v Pat Rafter (Aus), Centre Court

Most people seem to be favouring Agassi, but I'm going for Rafter to beat the number two seed in a match which will go the distance.

The Australian 12th seed has come through the draw very quietly, but looks to be back to his best after shoulder surgery last year.

The former US Open champion will also be very keen to avenge his defeat by Agassi in the semi-finals last year.

Rafter hasn't faced a seeded player so far, but he is producing some magnificent tennis and is moving very freely once again after all his injury problems.

By contrast, I don't think Agassi - despite his great performance against Philippoussis in the quarter-finals - is playing quite as well as he can.

Prediction: Rafter to win in five sets
