Sunday, 25 June, 2000, 16:59 GMT 17:59 UK Sue Barker's golden moments - No.1
![]() With many Wimbledon memories from her days as a presenter and a player, Sue Barker talks to BBC Sport Online about a winning streak few will ever forget.
The year was 1996 and few had anticipated that the men's final would be contested between outsiders Richard Krajicek and Mal Washington. Even fewer had anticipated what would happen before the final got started.
Washington was attempting to follow in the footsteps of the great Arthur Ashe as the only black man to win the men's singles and the stakes were as high as ever. The finalists lined up for the traditional photocall at the net before play began on Centre Court - but all eyes were suddenly elsewhere. Surreal moment A female streaker burst onto the scene and broke the tension as both players shared a laugh at a highly surreal moment. Those fleeting seconds were the most requested piece of video transmission in the BBC compound that year. The cameraman was so professional, not at all fazed, he never lost focus - unlike the two finalists! Washington was obviously more affected than Krajicek as the giant Dutchman went on to win in straight sets, 6-3 6-4 6-3.
