He was not expected to trouble the fifth seed but took him the full distance before losing the final set 9-7. Born in April 1968 in Norwich, Chris reached the last eight at Queen's in 1989 en route to a career-high world ranking of 126. A former national under-12s champion and a Wimbledon junior quarter-finalist in 1986, he retired because of injury in 1994. As well as working as a summariser on BBC TV's tennis coverage, Chris has also presented action from the French Open for digital channel BBC Choice.
