(8) S Williams (USA) bt L Raymond (USA) 6-2 6-0
Eighth seed Serena Williams has stormed into the semi-finals with an awesome display of tennis beating fellow American Lisa Raymond. She will now play sister Venus in the semi-final which will be an intriguing exhibition. Williams took advantage right from the start of the match breaking Raymond's serve in the first game and she didn't look back, taking only an astonishing 41 minutes for victory. Serena, making only her second appearance at Wimbledon after missing last year's event through injury, had beaten Raymond in their only previous meeting in the German Open last year, served throughtout the match with phenomenal power. Williams' strength, athleticism and agility meant Raymond, a title winner in Birmingham two, was scrambling for almost every return. The 18-year-old US Open champion has now dropped only thirteen games in her path to the semi-finals, having beaten Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn in the fourth round. The final set was completed without dropping another game and Serena was then able to race around to Centre Court to see her sister overcome Martina Hingis. A good day for the Williams' family and father Richard looked a very proud man cheering from the sidelines.
