American Jeff Tarango was at the centre of another Wimbledon storm after accusing his opponent Paul Goldstein of faking injury.

Tarango refused to shake the hand of his opponent after losing the four-hour match 6-3 3-6 7-5 3-6 10-12.

Later, he said it was unfair that two of his service games had been delayed while Goldstein called for treatment on his leg.

"I know he runs like a deer, so he couldn't have been that hurt," said Tarango.

Faking

"I don't think it's right for a guy to get a massage in the middle of the match.

"Of course he was faking the injury. He was fine."

Goldstein denied he had done anything wrong.

"I feel really comfortable in the way I handled everything and I don't feel like I did anything unethical," he said.

"I would have preferred it if we would have shook hands and said 'Gee, that was a battle. Let's have a beer tonight. It's on me'."

Tarango was defaulted from the 1995 Wimbledon championships after a dispute with an umpire.

Slapping

Trailing against Alexander Mronz in a third-round match, the 31-year-old Californian took the unprecedented step of refusing to continue when umpire Bruno Rebeuh called one of his serves out.

Tarango screamed "That's it, I'm not playing," and told the crowd to "shut up" as he stormed off court.

His wife Benedicte later added to the controversy by gatecrashing Tarango's post-match Press conference and slapping Rebeuh.

Today Tarango at least managed to finish the match, gifting it to Goldstein with a double fault.

But he insisted: "It's my option whether I want to shake a guy's hand or not and nobody makes that decision but me.

"There may be a time when I think Paul Goldstein is a really good guy - I don't really know the guy at all.

"There might be a time when I want to shake the guy's hand, but not now."
