Sue Barker's Golden Moments - No.10
Platform shoes
1970s: platform shoes at the height of fashion
With many Wimbledon memories from not only her days as a presenter but also as a player, Sue Barker talks to the BBC Sport Online team.

One of the events Sue remembers involves girls in platform shoes running after Bjorn Borg on Centre Court in 1973. She was one of them.

Did you spot me? Pink dress, white shoes. I got an autograph, and played mixed doubles with him in America. Great result!

Borg still had not won a men's singles title at Wimbledon men but had already become a big hit with tennis fans, particularly the female ones.

It is not hard to see why.

He wasn't a bad tennis player either.

But it was another three years before he was crowned King of SW19, beating Ilie Nastase in straight sets.

Centre Court then became a home away from home for the Swede.

We had to wait until 1981 for his reign to finally come to an end, John McEnroe getting the better of him in another classic final.
