![]() Sir Cliff shines as the rain comes down
With many Wimbledon memories from not only her days as a presenter but also as a player, Sue Barker talks to the BBC Sport Online team.
Here she recalls the time she considered singing back-up vocals for Sir Cliff Richard out on Centre Court, only to pull out at the last moment.
I was going to join the backing group when Cliff Richard was singing in the rain, but as I reached the Centre Court he was singing 'Bachelor Boy'. I changed my mind. Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver were brave enough to join in, clearly enjoying the experience and the limelight. More importantly, the impromptu sing-a-long raised the spirits of everyone at courtside that day. It certainly helped lift the gloom which had descended on SW19 midway through week two of the championships. So far, Sir Cliff has resisted all attempts to repeat that magic performance. But the sight of him crooning away as the rain came down will live long in the memories of a lot of people.
