First Minister Carwyn Jones toured north Wales in his first official visit to the region since taking over the top political job in Wales. Mr Jones marked the start of building work on a £6m training centre to help young people in the energy sector. The centre at Llangefni, on Anglesey, will also boost skills needed to de-commission Wylfa nuclear power station. The first minister also saw work to improve a footpath on the Little Orme in Llandudno. The assembly government is funding two-thirds of the cost of the energy and fabrication centre at Coleg Menai, Llangefni. The centre will offer skills in welding and steel fabrication, as well as specialised health and safety. The first minister said: "This centre will be a big step in our efforts to create 'Ynys Ynni' an energy island, where there is a real commitment to build and maintain future capacity in renewable, as well as mainstream energy. "I'm impressed that the college has moved so quickly and is ready to offer what business and the community need." Improvements to the footpath at the Little Orme in Llandudno are designed to make it accessible by wheelchair and less able users. The first minister was also visiting the Llanberis mountain rescue team.
