Rats force school kitchen closure

A secondary school has closed its kitchens due to a rat problem.

Pupils at Ysgol Gyfun Maes yr Yrfa in Cefneithin, Carmarthenshire, have been told to bring packed lunches with them until at least Wednesday.

The county council said the problem was discovered last week and since been controlled with the kitchens thoroughly sanitised and disinfected.

Pupils entitled to free school meals will have packed lunches prepared by cooks at a nearby school.

The council said letters had been sent to parents explaining the problem.

It said it hoped to fully reopen the kitchen on Wednesday.
