A 48-year-old man wanted in connection with an alleged rape in 2005 has been returned to south Wales after being found in the United States.

Alexander Burns was traced to Montana after an appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme in October 2007.

Police said he was flown back to the UK and arrested on arrival at Heathrow Airport two days before Christmas.

He will appear from custody before a judge in Swansea this month over the alleged rape near Port Talbot.

Det Insp Mark Lewis, of the Neath Port Talbot public protection unit, said: "I would like to thank the public who responded to our appeal on the BBC Crimewatch programme which resulted in us tracing Burns and bringing him back to this country."
