Stab killer jailed for 13 years

A 22-year-old woman will serve at least 13 years of a life sentence for stabbing her mother's partner to death.

Maxine Williams refused to attend Swansea Crown Court for sentencing a day after being convicted by a jury of murdering Bernard Evans at his home.

Judge, Mr Justice Nigel Davis, said she had not shown any remorse for the attack on the 42-year-old in Ammanford.

He said it was hard to ignore before the trial began she "falsely and wickedly" blamed her mother.

She had also accused her 16-year-old brother of telling lies to the police.

But Mr Justice Davis described her as a "sad, damaged and vulnerable person" who suffered from depression after the birth of her child, and said he did not believe she intended to kill Mr Evans.

The trial had heard Williams attacked Mr Evans with a knife, stabbing him in the chest and arm at his home in Ammanford on 22 January.

He suffered a severed artery and bled to death in the kitchen of his home in Pantyffynnon Road.

Williams, the mother of a young baby, lived in Pembrey at the time.

Speaking after the sentencing temporary Det Ch Insp Richard Evans said: "We hope that this sentence provides Bernard Evans's family with some comfort, but realise that it does little to lessen the loss that they will have to live with.

"Dyfed-Powys Police have been fully committed to this investigation to secure justice for the family.

"Officers were dedicated to the investigation, and I would like to thank them for the work which has resulted in the sentence today.

"I would like to reassure the public that tragic incidents such as these are rare within the Dyfed-Powys Police area and we will continue to do our utmost to ensure it remains the safest place in England and Wales to live."
