Mrs Sutton was found bludgeoned to death in bed at home

Police say they will not be re-opening the investigation into the death of Joyce Sutton, seven months after her late partner was cleared of her murder.

David Henton, 72, died two months after a jury found him not guilty of killing her at her home in Skewen near Neath.

South Wales Police said after reviewing the evidence detectives would not be looking into the matter further.

At the trial in March the prosecution claimed Mr Henton had confessed to his cats he had killed the 65-year-old.

Detective Superintendent Paul Burke, head of the force's major crime unit, said: "South Wales Police has conducted a review of the evidence regarding the death of Joyce Sutton at her home in Skewen.

"Following this review it has been decided that there will be no re-investigation into her death.

"Our thoughts remain with the family of Joyce Sutton."

Mr Henton, of Neath, died at Neath Port Talbot hospital in May.

Mother-of-one, Mrs Sutton, a widow, was found bludgeoned to death in bed at home in January 2006.
