Escape bulls resort rampage probe

Escaped bulls
The animals were eventually put down by police marksmen.

An investigation is being launched into how two bulls escaped to cause chaos in Tenby earlier this week.

One man was thrown into a hedge and others forced to flee before the cattle were shot by police marksmen.

Pembrokeshire Council's Animal Health Team has been asked by the Welsh Assembly Government to probe the circumstances leading to the escape.

The council said it would be speaking to those involved to ensure there was no repeat of such an incident.

The animals escaped near Tenby harbour on Wednesday morning as they were transported from Caldey Island to the mainland for slaughter.

They were on the loose for over two hours and parts of the town were sealed off.

Council spokesman Len Mullins said: "We will be speaking to a number of individuals to find out how this incident occurred.

"Although no one received any significant injuries as a result of the bulls escaping, the outcome could have been much more serious and we need to ensure that it does not recur."
