Couple killed in three car crash

The road was closed for six hours following the collision

Two people who died in a three-car crash near Caerphilly on Tuesday have been named by South Wales Police as a 77-year-old man and his wife aged 75.

Thomas "Tommy" Jones and his wife Annie "Mo" Jones were from Beddau, Pontypridd were in a Renault Clio.

The cars collided on a roundabout at the A468 at the top of Nantgarw Hill by Caerphilly Garden Centre.

Three women in a Chrysler Grand Voyager were seriously hurt and a man man in a Rover 416 was also injured.

The collision occurred at about 1415 BST on Tuesday.

The four injured were taken to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff.

Road closed

A 40-year-old woman from Bargoed, Rhymney Valley is described as being in a critical condition in hospital.

She was in the Grand Voyager with two other women, aged 42 and 31 and also from Bargoed, who are both in a serious condition .

A 33-year-old man from Senghennyd who was in the Rover was later discharged.

The road was closed in both directions for a number of hours.
