Police are appealing for help in tracing the last movements of a 53-year-old-man who was murdered at his Swansea home.

The body of John Mellin was found at his home in Ystwyth Place in the Clase area of the city at 2340 BST on Sunday.

Officers want information about an argument believed to have taken place between Mr Mellin and two men in the road about 25 minutes beforehand.

Two local men of 42 and 21 have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The men remain in custody at Swansea central police station.

Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who might have seen Mr Mellin in the days before his body was found

Clase is a close-knit community which is understandably shocked and saddened by this dreadful incident.

Det Ch Insp Paul Burke, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who knew Mr Mellin or has any information about him particularly where he had been, and who he had spoken to, towards the end of last week and over the weekend.

"He was last seen alive in the street near his home on Saturday night and earlier that evening wearing smart clothes - we need to know where he had been that day.

"Our thoughts are with Mr Mellin's family including his elderly father who is being supported by a family liaison officer."

Det Ch Insp Burke appealed for anyone with information to contact the police incident room directly or Crimestoppers anonymously.

Supt Julian Williams said high visibility patrols have been increased in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

He added: "Clase is a close-knit community which is understandably shocked and saddened by this dreadful incident.

"I would like to reassure the community that this tragic death is a one-off incident and our thoughts are with all those who knew Mr Mellin particularly his family."

Anyone with information on the death is asked to call 01792 562731 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
