Two cannabis factories are found

The raids were carried out by officers on Wednesday night

Police have uncovered two cannabis factories in the Neath Port Talbot area and seized an estimated 1,000 plants.

Raids were carried out at addresses in James Street, Pontardawe, and Bevan Street, Port Talbot, after tip-offs from the public.

Lighting and heating equipment were also recovered and investigations are under way to trace those involved.

Both properties were privately rented and South Wales Police have repeated warnings to landlords to be vigilant.

Officers recovered around 600 plants in Pontardawe and a further 400 in Port Talbot during the raid on Wednesday night.

Det Insp Dave Wright said: "We would ask all landlords to be vigilant and to check their properties frequently.

"One of the landlords was paid the rent in cash for months in advance. If an offer like this seems too good to be true then it probably is.

"We have asked the public to look out for the tell-tale signs of a cannabis factory and we are pleased that a number of our recent successes have followed information from the community."

Information about illegal drug activity can be passed to South Wales Police on 01792 456999 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
