The jury at the trial of a 72-year-old man accused of killing his long-term partner has been sent home for the night.
David Henton, of Neath, has pleaded not guilty at Swansea Crown Court to the murder of Joyce Sutton, 65, in her Skewen home.
The prosecution claims he confesses to hitting Mrs Sutton in secret recordings of him talking to his cats.
The widow was found bludgeoned to death in bed in January 2006.
Giving evidence in his defence Mr Henton, who had known Mrs Sutton for 32 years, said he had never hit Mrs Sutton or raised a hand to her.
The jury was sent out to consider its verdict on Wednesday morning. It will return to continue its deliberations on Thursday.
