Off-duty firefighter rescues four
An off-duty fire officer has rescued four people from a house blaze after he spotted smoke coming from the property as he drove by during the early hours.

The officer was passing through Richmond Terrace, Carmarthen, at 0600 GMT when he leapt into action.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said he rescued the occupants and a fifth person was led to safety before crews reached the scene.

The officer's name has not been released. Nobody was injured.

The fire had taken hold in the kitchen when the emergency was raised, and two crews were sent to the scene from Carmarthen.
