Pedestrians hit in motorway crash
M4 crash scene
Four vehicles were involved in the crash
Three people were taken to hospital and a carriageway was closed on Thursday morning following a crash on the M4.

South Wales Police said there had been a series of minor collisions near Llangyfelach, Swansea at 0615.

It appears two people from one of the vehicles were then hit by a van while walking along the motorway carriageway.

The westbound carriageway between junctions 45 and 46 was closed during the morning rush hour causing tailbacks of up to seven miles.

According to reports from the scene, two cars and two vans smashed into the central reservation and were badly damaged near to junction 46.

Police officers examined the crash scene, which was spread over about 100-150 yards.

The ambulance service said they sent three crews to the scene.

However, police said it appeared the two people who were walking on the road had been in one of the vehicles involved in a crash but got out to talk to another motorist.

Trafficlink reported that the delays caused on both carriageways by the accident had cleared by around midday.

But in a seperate incident, a broken down lorry blocked one lane and caused queuing traffic between junctions 44 and 45 of the M4 at around 1215 GMT.
