Two men arrested in an investigation into the death of a young father in an alleged hit-and-run incident in the Swansea Valley have been released

Craig Jones, 25, from Ystradgynlais, was struck by a vehicle at Home Farm Lane just after midnight on Sunday.

Dyfed-Powys Police said two men who were in custody have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Jones, who had a three-year-old son with his partner, was found lying in the road by another motorist.

He was taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea but died as a result of his injuries.

Ch Ins Andy Twigger said Home Farm Lane, where Mr Jones was found, is a narrow cul-de-sac type road serving a small housing estate.

Check records

"The area is used mainly by local people, sometimes by courting couples and sometimes by youngsters who gather by the recreation area," he added.

Mr Twigger said forensic officers found debris believed to be from the vehicle involved at the scene of the collision, which he said was a "major line" of inquiry.

On Tuesday, police appealed to vehicle repair centres to check their records for repairs to front end damage to Ford Focus and Ford C-Max vehicles since 2 December.

Mr Jones had been for an evening out in Ystradgynlais on Saturday evening.

Ch InspTwigger added: "It is a tragedy. Apparently on his way home, (he) leaves a partner, a young child and grieving family."

Witnesses are urged to contact the incident room at Ystradgynlais police station on 08453 302000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
