Hollywood car is star of auction
The 1934 Buick
The car is thought to be one of seven still in existence
A rare 1934 American Buick that has appeared alongside a who's who of film and music stars is going under the hammer in west Wales at the weekend.

Actors John Wayne, Peter Ustinov and Sir Ian Mckellen plus singer Kate Bush are just some of those who have shared the screen with the vintage motor.

Currently owned by a collector from Kidwelly it will be sold at a classic car auction on Saturday.

Auctioneers said they were hoping for bids from across the UK and overseas.

The 1934 Buick model 90L four-door limousine is believed to be one of just seven still in existence.

Nigel Hodson of Peter Francis Auctioneers said because of its distinctive 'gangster look' it had been in demand by many Hollywood productions.

Among its screen credits are the 1975 John Wayne movie Brannigan and the Agatha Christie film Appointment With Death, starring Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot.

It also featured in Sir Ian McKellen's big screen adaptation of Richard III.

Mr Hodson said it had even appeared in Kate Bush music video.

"The car is totally stunning. It's appeared in a lot of films," he said, adding that the current owner was heartbroken to be parting with it but was selling it for personal reasons.

"The present vendor tried to buy the car for 20 years and finally succeeded in the late 1970s," he said.

"A six year comprehensive restoration ensued, for which there is a photographic record.

"We've had inquiries from all over Britain and calls from Ireland as well.

"To someone out there it's worth a lot of money but we will have to wait to see whether they are prepared to offer enough.

A final reserve price has not been settled on but a price of more than £10,000 is expected.
