Camper's 50 year holiday repeat

Sally Davies returns to the site at Port Eynon every year

A party has been thrown at a caravan site on Gower for a holidaymaker who has visited each summer for 50 years.

Sally Davies, of Gorseinon, was treated to champagne and cake for her loyalty to Burrows Caravan Park at Port Eynon.

The 85-year-old stayed there for the first time with her late husband Tom in 1955 and has returned every year since.

Co-owner Lawrie Grove said they had a lot of repeat customers but Mrs Davies was the first to have spent half a century of summers at the site.

Her two children, Brian and Linda, plus three grandchildren, were also regular visitors.

"I just feel at home here," said Mrs Davies.

"The owners are nice, the people are nice and I think it's the best field down here."

She has spent virtually all the summer at the site but is planning a trip abroad when the weather becomes older in October.

Mrs Davies said most days she just takes it easy.

"When I was younger we would go down to the beach swimming and have parties with friends. Most days now I sleep, eat and relax.

"I had a heck of a shock with the party. There were cakes champagne and flowers."

"Complete luxury"

She and her late husband started off with a basic caravan with two single beds, one light and no toilet.

These days she has more creature comforts with a both toilet and shower.

"We've had four caravans, the latest one is complete luxury.

"This year I've been here since May and will stay until at least the end of September."

Mr Grove said Mrs Davies had many friends at the park who joined in the celebrations on the weekend.

"We had a bit of a party and presented her with flowers and champagne - she is a real character," he said.

"Most of the people who have caravans here are from Swansea or Wales but we also get people from London, Manchester and further away. They return year after year but Sally is the first to have been coming for 50 years."
