Police investigating the attempted armed robbery of a Port Talbot post office want to speak to a man seen outside shortly before.
Two men wearing balaclavas, one with a gun, threatened and assaulted the postmaster at 0840 GMT on Tuesday.
The man was seen standing near Taibach Post Office in Commercial Road between 0815 and 0840GMT.
He was white, in his mid-20s, slim and wore a black and white baseball cap and black jacket.
Detectives say they believe the robbers may have been in the area for some time prior to the incident.
A South Wales Police spokesman said: "The postmaster was threatened and assaulted by two men, one of whom was in possession of what appeared to be a handgun.
"The postmaster managed to run from the premises and the suspects made off empty handed."
Police found a burnt-out, white Vauxhall Astra, which they think was used in the robbery, near Swansea Bay Golf Course.
Police want anyone who was in the area between 0600 and 0900GMT to contact Port Talbot CID on 01792 456999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
