Zeta's favourite eaterie expands

The Hollywood couple are regular visitors to Swansea

When Catherine Zeta Jones is treated to a meal in Swansea by husband Michael Douglas in future the couple will be spoilt for choice.

One of her favourite restaurants in the city is to open a second eaterie in the SA1 development.

La Braseria will occupy space in the J Shed - a listed warehouse overlooking the Prince of Wales Dock.

It is part of a £200m regeneration of the dockland area with a mix of homes, businesses and leisure complexes.

The Hollywood couple regularly dine at the existing La Braseria restaurant at Wind Street when they visit Zeta Jones' parents in her home city.

They have been regular visitors to Swansea since they married and Jones' family has just had a new £1m house built in the Mumbles area of the city.

La Braseria has been a popular haunt in the city since it was opened 18 years ago by the Tercero family.

Family spokesman Daniel Tercero said the name and concept of the new restaurant would remain under wraps for now.

"We'd been thinking about a second restaurant for a number of years but it was a matter of finding the right development and location," he said.

"As soon as we heard about the plans for the J-Shed we knew it was what we'd been looking for."

Work has started on renovating the J Shed warehouse

He said the new restaurant will create 40 full and part-time jobs.

The £5m J Shed renovation is being developed by Mansford Loft-co, the company behind London's Chelsea Harbour and the Old Brewery Quarter in Cardiff.

It will house loft living apartments, work units and an extensive leisure area.

"By combining left-style living and working with contemporary leisure and cultural space we're confident that the J Shed will become a focal point for SA1," said company spokesman Charles Knight.

The SA1 scheme is being developed by the Welsh Development Agency and the private sector.

The centre piece will be a commercial marina in the old Prince of Wales Dock.

When the first phase of housing, being built by Bellway Homes, went on sale earlier this year buyers queued for more than three days to secure apartments.

A pineapple-shaped visitor centre in the centre of the marina is also planned, along with a Space Life Centre and business techniums.

Work on the J Shed has started and is set to be completed next year.
