Pub evacuated after fire

Firefighters were at the scene for more than four hours
A Swansea pub had to be evacuated after a fierce fire broke out on Tuesday.

Customers and staff at the Marquis Arms on Carmarthen Road were ordered out of the building shortly before 1300BST.

Roads leading to the scene, including the busy Fforest Fach junction, were closed by police to traffic causing heavy tailbacks in the area.

Mid and West Wales firefighters based at Sketty, Morriston and Gorseinon were called to the scene.

They spent more than four hours fighting the blaze and making sure the building was safe.

A fire brigade spokeswoman said firefighters stayed to dampen down what remained of the roof after the fire, which was described as serious.

"It is quite a busy pub but it had been evacuated when we arrived and there was no one inside," she added.

There were no reported injuries.

The spokeswoman said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
