Appeal over 'Ghostbuster' attack on Cardiff train

Transport police want to identify this man
Transport police say this man left Cardiff Queen Street station on his own

A man dressed as a Ghostbuster was punched in the face on board a train in Cardiff, say transport police.

Officers are appealing for the public's help in identifying a man pictured on CCTV who they believe can help with the investigation.

The 27-year-old victim suffered a broken nose and a fractured cheekbone, and was treated in hospital.

The incident happened on board a Bridgend to Aberdare train service at 2040 GMT on Saturday, 31 October.

British Transport Police said four men boarded the train at Cardiff Central station and became involved in "banter" with a group of three men dressed as Ghostbusters for Halloween.

One of the group of four took offence to comments and approached one of the Ghostbusters, punching him in the face.

The group of four then got off at the next station, Cardiff Queen Street. Police said the man in the CCTV image left the station on his own.

Det Insp Mark Cleland said: "We believe the group of four men who boarded at Cardiff Central rail station may have been Pontypridd rugby fans who had been at a match involving the club in Cardiff earlier on Saturday, 31 October.

"I would urge anyone who knows the identity of the man in the CCTV image to contact us as we believe he may have information which can help our investigation."

Anyone who knows the man's identity or his whereabouts is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting log reference 565 of 31/10/2009.
