Scotland and Cardiff City striker Ross McCormack has been charged with drink-driving, it has been confirmed.

The 23-year-old footballer was arrested following an incident in Cardiff on Sunday and is due to appear before city magistrates on 9 November.

McCormack, who moved to Cardiff City from Motherwell in June 2008, is understood to have been arrested in the early hours of Sunday.

Cardiff City said it was a personal matter for the player.

He had not long returned to the city after his club's 4-3 away win over Sheffield United the previous day.

McCormack, who had just returned to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury, had appeared as a 79th minute substitute in the match.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "A 23-year-old man has been charged with drink-driving offences. He will appear in court on November 9."

A spokesman for Cardiff City said: "We are not making any official comment because it's a personal matter for Ross."
