The initial stage of the development involves 100 acres of land

A controversial business park on the outskirts of Cardiff that developers say could create thousands of jobs has won initial backing. Westgate Park Ltd has been granted outline planning consent for the site north of junction 33 off the M4. The company plans seven storey offices, hotels and catering outlets as well as an "airport style transport hub." Concerns had been raised locally by the residents of Groes-Faen, Creigiau and Pentyrch. They feel it will impact on the local transport network. The initial stage would need 100 acres, but if further applications are successful - the park will be developed over 300 acres on land between the M4 and Llantrisant Road. Company director Mike Axon said: "The business park will have a major effect on the economy and transport facilities in south Wales. 'Social benefits' "It will attract thousands of new jobs to the region, improve traffic flows at Junction 33 and create one of the best public transport facilities in the UK. "By a combination of design and management it will mean more jobs within easier reach of many people in the region, particularly those in the valleys." He said a new "airport style regional transport hub" would result in up to 10 bus services an hour running through the site to Cardiff, with links to local railway stations, Bridgend, Newport, the valleys and cities throughout the UK. "It is a scheme that has been many years and much detailed work in the making, that will bring prosperity and social benefits and which we are proud of," added Mr Axon.
