Masked raiders attack man in bed

Police have issued an appeal for information after burglars attacked a 46-year-old man as he slept.

Kenneth Britton was attacked by three masked men at about 0400 BST on Sunday in the Westra area of Dinas Powys in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Officers said the assault on Mr Britton was "unprovoked" and he was subjected to a "terrible ordeal".

A number of "very valuable" pieces of jewellery were stolen, including a Rolex Daytona wrist watch.

Det Sgt Rob Davidson of Barry CID said: "Three masked men entered Mr Britton's home when he was asleep and subjected him to a terrible ordeal.

"This assault and burglary was very nasty and unprovoked.

The officer said police would like to hear from anyone who may have any information regarding the incident.

"A number of very valuable jewellery items were taken during the incident including a distinctive Rolex Daytona wrist watch, a nine carat gold gent's bracelet, a heavy gold chain necklace, a five-diamond ring, a gold 'puzzle' ring which has been soldered together as well as a company cheque card in the name of Britton Brothers Ltd."

He added:"While it was a particularly nasty assault I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as this are extremely rare in the Vale of Glamorgan."
