An inquest has been opened and adjourned on the death of a man found at his home near Bridgend.

A hearing was told that Rhys Davies, 23, was found hanged on Saturday in the bedroom of his family home in Bettws.

His death is the fourth in the Bettws area since April, but South Wales Police have said they are not being linked.

Since the beginning of 2007, 22 other young people from the county have apparently taken their own lives.

The inquest at the Tabernacle Church in Brackla, near Bridgend, heard that refuse collector Mr Davies had spent Friday night socialising at a friend's house, retuning home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

His body was discovered at 1100 BST in his bedroom by family.

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Davies on a Facebook webpage and by people in his village.

It is also understood that Mr Davies also worked behind the bar at the Bettws Social Club in the village and was due to go on holiday to Benidorm this week.

Philip Walters, the coroner for Bridgend, adjourned the inquest and will resume it at a later date.
