A father has urged his son to contact police after the fatal stabbing of a man in Nantyffyllon near Maesteg.

The father of a man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing has appealed for him to hand himself into police investigating the street murder.

Craig Ivey, 26, of Gilfach Goch, Rhondda Cynon Taf, was stabbed with a knife at Nantyffyllon near Maesteg, Bridgend county, early on Monday.

Police want to trace Adrian Miles, 32, from Maesteg, who they think was in an argument with Mr Ivey before his death.

Mr Miles's father Gerwyn has urged his son to get in touch.

Speaking at a police press conference he said: "Adrian, we are all extremely concerned and upset about what has happened and would appeal for you to hand yourself into police as soon as possible for your sake, your family and the family of Craig Ivey.

"The police urgently need to speak to you about what happened to assist with their investigation.

"Please, I urge you to go to the nearest police station or call the incident room so that this situation is resolved. The sooner you get in touch the better for you and everyone concerned."

Police believe Mr Ivey died following an "altercation" with Adrian Miles in Coegnant Road, Nantyffyllon at around 01.30 BST on Monday.

"We believe that Mr Ivey was attacked with a knife and died at the scene," said Det Supt Martyn Jones.

"A murder investigation is ongoing so I'm limited in what I can say but what I will say is that we urgently need to speak to Adrian Miles in connection with this incident."

He said inquiries were ongoing to trace Mr Miles and it is believed he is within the county borough of Bridgend.

They have released a picture of him and described him as being around 5ft 8in tall, with dark brown hair and a flat, broken nose.

Two other people were injured in the incident, a 32-year-old man who was bitten by a dog and a 31-year-old woman who needed stitches to a finger wound.

Officers used a Taser gun to subdue a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog after being called to the scene.

An incident room has been set up at Bridgend Police Station.

Officers previously said they believe Mr Ivey knew his attacker and it was not a random incident.

Acting Supt Paul Murphy, who is divisional commander, reassured the community saying incidents involving knives within the area were extremely rare.

"We are supporting local communities in Maesteg providing reassurance to those who are understandably shocked by what has happened," he said.

He thanked the community for the support and information given to detectives but appealed for anyone who had not come forward to get in touch.

Adrian Miles and any witnesses are asked to contact the incident room on 01656 679529 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
