Teen patient's 'paramedic attack'

Three young men and two youths have gone on trial accused of violence around an attack on two paramedics.

The crew were answering a 999 call in a street in Cardiff last November.

Sean Kempton, 20, Cohen Riella, 18, Nathan White, 19 and two 16-year-olds, who cannot be named, all deny violent disorder at Cardiff Crown Court.

The crew were called to deal with one of the 16-year-olds, who had collapsed after drinking. He also denies causing actual bodily harm to a crew member.

Prosecutor Martyn Kelly said the ambulance was called to Sevenoaks Street in the Grangetown area to deal with the teenager, who had collapsed after drinking.

After he had got into the ambulance the court head how the youth became agitated and violent.

Two of his friends opened the ambulance door and got inside shouting threats at the crew.

Both ambulance men were assaulted and had their glasses knocked off in the late night incident on 17 November, the court heard.

An older man then took the teenager from the ambulance, the rest disappeared leaving the two ambulance crew members to wait for the police.

The trial continues.
