Tributes for bookmaker 'legend'

The family of a 69-year-old bookmaker who died in a road crash on the A48 in Cardiff have paid tribute.

John Lovell's black Audi A6 was in a collision with an articulated lorry at Llanedeyrn at 1145 BST on Monday.

Mr Lovell, from Cyncoed, Cardiff, leaves a wife Mary and five children - Richard, Susan, James, David and Sarah.

He was a bookmaker for 45 years, owning a betting shop in the Rumney area, and his family said in tribute: "He was a legend who touched so many lives.

His family said Cardiff had ""lost a son" and described him as a "much-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend."

Mr Lovell was also a keen golfer and member of the Whitchurch Golf Club and was looking forward to his racehorse Sams Lad running this weekend, they said.

The lorry overturned in Monday's collision on the northern side of the A48 interchange at the junction which feeds the Llanedeyrn estate, said police.
