Warning as prisoner goes missing
John Kilpatrick

Police searching for a convicted burglar who absconded from an open jail say he could be a risk to the public.

John Thomas Kilpatrick, 38, went missing from Prescoed in Usk, Monmouthshire, on Sunday and was last seen at 1730 GMT.

Kilpatrick is described as 5ft 8in, of slight build with brown hair and hazel-coloured eyes. He has a dragon tattoo on his left forearm.

Police said members of the public should not approach him.

Kilpatrick was convicted of burglary at Peterborough Crown Court in July 2005, but is not a sex offender nor is he serving a life sentence, police said.

Gwent Police said they had activated their operational plan with the aim of locating Kilpatrick and the prison was co-operating fully.

Meanwhile, Christopher Joseph, 26, who went missing from Prescoed last on Wednesday, is still at large.

He was serving a sentence for driving offences.

Anyone with information can call Gwent Police on 01633 838 111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
