Elvis tribute's festival marriage
Ceri Richards and Dave Smith
The wedding took place during Porthcawl's Elvis festival
An Elvis Presley tribute act has married his fiancée in a Las Vegas-style wedding during an annual festival in honour of "the King".

Dave Smith, 20, from Aberdare, south Wales, was banned by his bride from wearing his usual Presley suit during the ceremony in Porthcawl.

Instead he wore a black tuxedo to marry Ceri Richards, 24, a fellow Elvis devotee he met at one of his gigs.

The wedding took place during the town's third annual Elvis festival.

The couple were serenaded by fellow tribute act Colbert Hamilton, known as the black Elvis, who performed the Hawaiian Wedding Song during Saturday's service.

One of Elvis' tour producers, Charles Stone, acted as a witness to the wedding.

The best man was also an Elvis tribute act, while another one, believed to be the world's oldest, read the vows.

Mr Smith, who won the Best Welsh Elvis in 2005, has been a tribute act since he was 16 and it was at one of his shows that he fell in love with his bride-to-be.

"I was performing up at Aberdare and that's where I met Ceri," he said.

Ms Richards, who is also from Aberdare, said: "I'd have loved to have got married in Las Vegas but it was not possible so Porthcawl is the next best thing".

Festival organiser Peter Phillips said the Grand Pavilion in the town was full, with more than 400 people watching the couple tie the knot.

"I can't believe that we have an Elvis getting married this year - it's normally an Elvis who carries out the wedding," he said.

"We have had weddings every year - the first year the mayor renewed his vows Elvis-style and a couple from Cardiff got married last year. It's one of the highlights of the festival.

"Dave is singing on Sunday and they'll be going on their honeymoon to west Wales after the festival comes to an end."

Mr Phillips said the festival, now in its third year was growing annually.

"This year a man has driven all the way from Benidorm in Spain to take part," he added.

The three-day festival runs until Sunday, 1 October.
